TEST OF PROFICIENCY IN KOREAN
In order to evaluate the Korean language proficiency of non native speakers who wants to live in South Korea for education, employment, and for various other purposes. The South Korean government conducts a proficiency exam called Test of Proficiency in Korean Language (TOPIK) both in Korea and overseas. This test measure the competency of candidates through reading comprehension, listening, writing, and memorization of vocabulary. The test has 2 grades, Level I& II. Level I has 1 & 2 grades (Begineers level). Level II has grade 3,4,5, and 6 grades (Intermediate to advance levels). Based on the total score the exam taker will be given a particular proficiency level on their certificates.
WHY SHOULS I TAKE TOPIK EXAM
If you are applying to South Korean University, for an admission or academic scholarship purpose you may have to submit a Korean proficiency score. If you are working in a Korean speaking environment in India and want to take up jobs of translation, interpretation etc.. there is a requirement of official TOPIK score. The course certificates issued by language learning centres may not be accepted by Korean government agencies. Hence a TOPIK certificate become very useful to show ones level of proficiency in Korean. If you are learning Korean for hobby purpose, but you want to test the level of Korean that you are acquired, then it is better to take the TOPIK exam and obtain an official proficiency certificate from South Korean Government.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR TOPIK
If you are learning Korean in India, you can apply for TOPIK exam using the link provided by KCCI, New Delhi. The registration is fully online process. and there is only 800 seats available for 3 exam centres in India. So the registration is fist come first serve basis.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR TOPIK EXAM
TOPIK Exam preparation requires very strong commitment and effort. Hence if you are planning to take up a proficiency exam please learn systematically from a Korean language academy. At KLCS we follow standard curriculum prescribed by NIIED for TOPIK classes. We give equal emphasis to develop speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. MCQ: Multiple choice answer type questions. Need to select one correct answer from 4 choices
Supply type: Writing answers (total 4 writing questions for TOPIK II)

1 descriptive essay ranging from 200-300 words (Including spaces) for Intermediate Level
1 argumentative essay ranging from 600-700 letters (including spaces) for advanced level
LANGUAGE COMPETENCE FOR TOPIK LEVELS
TOPIK I (1)
Able to carry out basic conversations related to daily surviving skills such as self-introduction, purchasing, ordering food, etc., and understand the contents related to very personal and familiar subjects such as himself/herself, family, hobby, weather and the like.
Able to create simple sentences based on a basic vocabulary of approximately 800 words and possess understanding of basic grammar.
Able to understand and compose simple and useful sentences related to everyday life.
TOPIK I (2)
Able to carry out simple conversations related to daily routines such as making phone calls and asking favor, as well as using public facilities in daily life.
Able to use about 1,500 to 2,000 vocabulary and understand personal and familiar subjects in certain order, such as paragraphing.
Able to use formal expression and informal expression accordingly, respective to the situation.
TOPIK II (3)
Able to carry out daily routine, with fair use of public facilities and able to socialize without significant difficulty.
Able to express or understand social subjects familiar to oneself, as well as specific subjects, based on paragraph.
Able to understand and differentiate written language and spoken language based on their distinctive basic characteristics.
TOPIK II (4)
Able to use various public facilities, socialize, and carry out some degree of ordinary work.
Able to understand easy parts in news broadcasts and newspapers.
Able to understand and use the expressions related to social and abstract subjects relatively correctly and fluently.
Able to understand social and cultural subjects, based on the understanding of Korean culture and frequently used idiomatic expression.
TOPIK II (5)
Able to perform linguistic function to some degree which is necessary for research and works in professional fields.
Able to understand and use the expressions related to even unfamiliar aspects of politics, economics, society, and culture.
Able to use the expression properly, depending on formal, informal, spoken/written context.
TOPIK II (6)
Able to perform linguistic function necessary to the research and works in professional fields relatively correctly and fluently.
Able to understand and use the expressions related to even unfamiliar subjects of politics, economics, society, and culture.
Able to experience no difficulty in performing the functions or conveying the meaning, although the proficiency has not reached full native speaker proficiency.
